A Lovely June Weekend

As soon as the warmer weather gets here, it’s always “Go, go, go” for Marty and I, and that was definitely the case this weekend.  As soon as we walked in our doors from work on Friday evening, we had changed into our weekend clothes and were heading out – pups, baby, diaper bag, beer & all – to have dinner with a couple of our dearest friends.

The food was delicious – Tilapia, green beans, cauliflower mash – and we even got to enjoy some Ted Drewes for dessert.  Everly enjoyed her first bites of the famous St. Louis custard, and it definitely got her seal of approval.

Saturday was busy-busy as usual.  After breakfast & a morning bath for Ev, I headed out for a much needed haircut/color while Marty got to clean out the gutters (fun, fun, fun!) Evy got spoiled at Grandpa’s, then we got to ring in a very special birthday for another of our best friends that night.

Sunday was more on the relaxing side.  I got to sleep in a bit (7:30 is sleeping in for this Mama), then have morning coffee & playtime with Everly before heading out to a pool party!  I made this amazing Cabbage Apple Slaw with Glazed pecans and got to enjoy some pool time with the husband and good friend.

Yes, it was a lovely weekend indeed.  It’s only June, but I know these summer weekends won’t last forever, so I’ll be braving the rest of this week with a smile, and secretly counting down the days until Friday.  It just can’t come soon enough.  Hope you had a lovely weekend too!

Summertime Fun

Hi there,  my apologies for being such a bad blogger lately; the summer bug has definitely bitten us and we’ve been busy bees enjoying much of the warmer weather with friends and family.  Since it’s been a while, I thought I’d give you all a little update on what’s new in the Buehler world.

We Celebrated A Special Anniversary
on 5.26, Marty and I clinked glasses to ring in 5 blissful years of marriage.  It’s so hard to believe that 5 years ago, we were just babies ourselves walking down the aisle with everything ahead of us. Last year on our 4-year anniversary, I couldn’t even imagine how much better things could get.  And here we are now, with our beautiful daughter who is a living testament to our union and the greatest gift we could have ever given one another.  We are truly living our dream as parents and could not be more excited for many more precious years to come, future children, and endless adventures.

And Then We Kicked off Summer with Memorial Day Weekend at the Lake
We packed up our car with pups, Everly, swimsuits and our summer gear and headed down to the lake to enjoy the day and get some sun.  Everly enjoyed breaking in yet another bathing suit, eating as much watermelon as her little heart desired, and being surrounded by all the sights and sounds the great outdoors has to offer.  There were boat rides, BBQ, lots of laughter, sunshine, and even a dip in the water.

And Now We’re Looking Forward to a Fully Packed Summertime Agenda
Summer is my favorite time of year, and this year we’ve got a lot to look forward to.  My brain is buzzing with excitement knowing that we have an upcoming trip to the beach with my family, followed by Everly’s first birthday party to plan – which I really need to get cracking on!  The wheels are already turning and I’ve got a few ideas up my sleeve for making her birthday special and I hope to share them with you soon.  Until then, it’s Sunday and I’ve got one happy lady who needs some attention from her Mama.  Take care!

Our Laid Back Saturday

Hi there,

Hope you all enjoyed your Saturday! We sure did, even though it was pretty quiet and relaxed in comparison to the usual.  It was here and gone before we knew it, but we definitely took the every second to enjoy our little one and some time out of work-mode.

We cleaned house a bit and then did some errand running and ” bumming ” as we like to refer to it.  After a couple of stops, we ended up at The Mud House, our absolute favorite coffeehouse, and had a nice little impromptu lunch date with just us three.  We both had some pretty spectacular sammies – I had this amazing goat cheese sandwich with carmelized onions and orange marmalade, and Papa had (of course) house-made sausage with a pickled cucumber relish. Nom!  Besides trying to gnaw my face off with her new chompers, Everly was very well-behaved, so she got to pick out a purdy new party dress at the store afterward.

Later that night, Mart & I decided to make dinner together instead of going out.  We roasted a chicken, stuffed with fresh orange, lemon, garlic, and rosemary and made some pretty tasty sweet potato fries.  Nothing elaborate but it made our house smell sooooo good and it was delicious!

The rest of the night was spent hanging out in PJ’s, watching cable and folding baby laundry and cloth diapers.  There may or may not have been chocolate ice cream involved. We were exhausted after it all and ended up getting to bed pretty early that night and waking up refreshed (yes!) on Sunday.  It may not have been the most exciting weekend, but really, these are the types of weekends that I like the best.

How was your weekend?  Feel free to leave me a comment and let me know what you and your loves did.

Our Quiet Saturday

After two nights of 30th birthday fun and leaving Everly in the care of Grandma & Grandpa, Marty and I were ready for a laid back Saturday with our Everly.  Marty decided to photo-blog our day of just bummin’ around town and enjoying the company of each other.  Here we are getting Ev dressed and telling her about the day’s plans.

Of course we can’t help but play with her and stop to enjoy her smiles and laughter.  It’s these types of moments that I look forward to all week while I’m away from her.

All dressed and ready to go…

We’re still not out the door because we can’t help ourselves and need to snuggle Everly on the couch, kissing her chubby cheeks and telling her how much we missed her last night.

Finally we get to enjoy this rare, sunny & 70 degree fall day and get out into the fresh air.

Papa drives.

And Everly & I get the backseat to ourselves.  We chit-chat and enjoy some much-needed girl talk.

Home Sweet Home.  With all of our errands finished, we arrive back with a sleepy baby.

But when she sees Roxy and Leyla, Everly decides she needs some tummy time.  We’re happy to enjoy some playtime too!

I mean, really, who wouldn’t want to play with this happy girl?  We turn on Disney’s Beauty & the Beast and Everly is enamored with the colorful animation and music.

So is Leyla, our Beauty

And Roxy, our Beasty

Time for a little snack.  Of course Roxy has to make sure that nothing gets dropped.

We don’t make it through the movie, but nothing beats a Saturday afternoon nap, especially with this cuddlebug.  We can’t wait to do it all over again tomorrow, and next week, and the week after that.  Somehow, the most ordinary days are always the best.  These ordinary days are a testament to the life that we are making.  And years from now, these are the days that we’ll remember the most.

First Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

The night we had Everly, Marty and I sat in my hospital bed in a daze, exhausted beyond belief and watching our little beauty sleep.  “She’s going to go to the Pumpkin Patch, ” Marty said, curling her tiny hand around his finger.  They were the first real plans we had made for our little girl, when she was  barely just a few hours old.  Three months later, we got to follow through with those plans and were lucky enough to snap a few memorable photos before Ev konked out.

And since it’s been a while since my last post, here’s a quick update on our own little pumpkin:

12. Weeks. Old

What Ev’s loving these days: watching Daddy put on his colorful ties in the morning, giggling at her Mama making faces and singing songs to her, watching the pups romp & play, and of course her most favorite thing – boobs!

What we’re loving these days: seeing Everly’s big belly laughs for the first time, how she leaves her sweet baby smell on her blankets and sometimes our clothes, and that big, beautiful smile that we dream about all day while we’re at work.

Developmental milestones: We have a chatterbox on our hands!  She loves to talk if she thinks that someone is listening (and I can listen to that all day long.)  She’s also reaching out and starting to grab for things and trying her darndest to sit up like a big girl.

Sleeping: Like a champ!  As of  a few days ago, she’s going about 7 to 8 hours sleeping straight through the night, which Mama is loving!

What we’re excited about: Ev’s first Halloween! (Stay tuned for a Halloween post with Ev in costume).  Can  you guess what she’s dressing up as?
